5 Things to Do in Rosarito for a Relaxed Beach Getaway

Some trips need a spreadsheet. A Rosarito getaway can start with a much shorter list: ocean, something delicious, and enough free time to enjoy both.

If you’re looking for things to do in Rosarito, these five ideas mix beach time with surfing, seafood, and local art. They cover downtown and nearby coastal stops, so choose a few favorites instead of trying to squeeze everything into one afternoon.

1. Start With a Walk on Rosarito Beach

Start with the obvious attraction: the Pacific.

Walk along the shore, take a few photos, and find an open patch of sand away from access routes and activity traffic. A beach blanket gives you somewhere to sit while everyone decides whether they’re hungry yet.

Make it your own: Bring a book, pack a small picnic, or simply enjoy having nowhere urgent to be. Check posted beach notices and lifeguard guidance before entering the water.

2. Try a Surf Lesson

If watching the waves turns into “I could probably do that,” consider a lesson before testing the theory.

Ask about equipment, wetsuits, lesson length, and what happens if conditions change before booking.

Your first session doesn’t need to produce an impressive photograph. Standing up for three seconds is an achievement. So is discovering that you’re an excellent spectator.

3. Make a Seafood Stop in Popotla

For a different coastal scene, head south of central Rosarito to Popotla, a working fishing village with boats, seafood sellers, and places to eat.

Look over a few menus, ask what’s available, and confirm prices before ordering. If you’re choosing seafood by weight or having a purchase cooked, settle the total arrangement first.

This is a good stop for the friend whose main travel interest is discovering what everyone else ordered.

4. Leave Room for Puerto Nuevo Lobster

Further along the coast, Puerto Nuevo gives lunch its own destination.

Compare menus and ask about lobster size, price, and what comes with the meal. Then give yourself time to enjoy it.

If you’ve already eaten in Popotla, save Puerto Nuevo for another day—or another visit. Two seafood lunches are an ambitious interpretation of a relaxed getaway.

5. Browse the Crafts Along Boulevard Artesanal Popotla

Add something beyond sand and seafood with a stop along Boulevard Artesanal Popotla.

Take your time looking at the details and ask sellers about the pieces that catch your eye. Check before photographing inside shops or workshops.

You might leave with a small souvenir. You might fall in love with a table that absolutely will not fit in your car. Both are possible.

Pack water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a light layer. Choose two or three stops, leave room between them, and let the afternoon happen.
